As you may be aware, Cornwall Council is preparing its long term plan for the county’s housing provision and Saltash has been identified as a town with the potential for growth in housing and jobs.
We think Broadmoor Farm, West Saltash is the right place in the area to develop a balanced mix of high quality housing and diverse employment opportunities for local people. We want to make this a special place that has a winning combination of top quality design and a flourishing community spirit – a place that provides opportunities and benefits to existing communities as well as stimulating investment into Saltash via new residents, visitors and businesses.
Commercial Estates Group has held two public exhibitions in July 2013 and January 2014 which resulted in a high level of interest from residents in Saltash and surrounding villages. Over 400 people attended the first and that number doubled to 800 in January.
Plans for a primary school, community orchards, public sports fields and a pedestrian and cycle bridge across the A38 to encourage integration with Saltash were highlighted and the economic benefits include a construction investment of £125 million, around 400 construction jobs, between £13 - £15 million annual spend in the locality by residents plus up to 1,000 jobs created via the new employment opportunities. Two new roundabouts are proposed on the A388 near Carkeel and on the A38 at Stoketon Cross as part of the highways improvements.
Plans for the development were approved by Cornwall Council in November 2014 subject to a number of highways conditions, to be agreed. CEG is working closely with the officers, councillors and local community to find the right solutions to the transport network.
